Boulder has many things to be proud of. Each of us can create a list of what we appreciate about living in the People’s Republic. Mine would include many of the usual suspects: the truly extraordinary open spaces and trails, the world-class music at CU’s Faculty Concerts on Tuesday, a great public library, a real bookstore, a vibrant Farmers’ Market, the Boulder Film Festival, the Boulder Bach Festival, the Boulder Fringe Festival, the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, the Conference on World Affairs.
And the Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company (BETC). Yes, the local group that presents plays at the Dairy Center belongs on any list of the very best Boulder has to offer. This season now ending — BETC’s eighth — has been wonderful in many ways.
The four plays represent the very highest of what is often called Off-Broadway theater. The scripts have been intelligent, fascinating, challenging, insightful, stimulating and moving. The actors, directors, designers and technicians have been at the top of their respective games. Their skill, talent and commitment radiates from the stage. Boulder has the real deal in its midst. One doesn’t have to go to New York or Chicago or San Francisco. We have a first-rate professional theater doing great work right here.
So, thank you, BETC, for a great season. All good wishes for your ninth year and beyond. Boulder is proud to have your wonderful art right here where we live and work and play.
